iPad Killer?

Posted by Jared Borne | 10 May 2010

We first speculated that since HP bought out Palm, they would come out wth a webOS tablet. According to many industry insiders, this appears to be more of a reality now. An insider at HP tells us that a webOS tablet under the code name HP Hurricane could be released the third quarter of this year.

Not too long ago--actually, only three weeks back--HP was still bragging about its HP Slate, a Windows 7 based tablet that was supposed to become the new iPad killer. However, early reviews suggested that the HP slate should just kill itself and that's exactly what appears to have happened.

"It is a really interesting device, but runs as slow as a turtle," says Los Angeles industry analyst Paul Mueller. "I think they could have had something with a faster processor, but that would have led to less battery life than the Slate already had." Like us, Mr. Mueller looks forward to the HP Hurricane. "If rumors of this tablet are true, this can be a killer device--webOS is an outstanding operating system for a tablet."

Google Buzz

Posted by Jared Borne | 09 Feb 2010

So Myspace, Twitter, and Facebook isn't eating up enough of your life? To the rescue - Google Buzz!

Google Buzz is a new way to start conversations about the things you find interesting. It's built right into Gmail, so you don't have to peck out an entirely new set of friends from scratch — it just works. If you think about it, there's always been a big social network underlying Gmail. Buzz brings this network to the surface by automatically setting you up to follow the people you email and chat with the most. We focused on building an easy-to-use sharing experience that richly integrates photos, videos and links, and makes it easy to share publicly or privately (so you don't have to use different tools to share with different audiences). Plus, Buzz integrates tightly with your existing Gmail inbox, so you're sure to see the stuff that matters most as it happens in real time.

Android OS 2.1

Posted by Jared Borne | 09 Feb 2010

Direct from Motorola's Facebook

"Motorola Hi all-- we know you are frustrated with the lack of details regarding Android software upgrades and we sincerely apologize for not being able to share info sooner. We're happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to DROID will start to roll out this week, and we will have more information to share on other device upgrades later this week as well. Thanks for your patience and continued support."

Some features include:

  • Google Goggles is now pre-installed.

  • The browser's now multitouch enabled, just like Google Maps 3.4.

  • The news and weather widgets introduced on the Nexus One are included.

  • Some features everyone wants, but no go:

  • No Flash.

  • No new look to home screen.

  • No active wallpapers.

  • I am not even sure what good will come from this update besides the Multi touch browser. A bit of hype was surrounding this update as bringing new features, but it appears to fall short. Time shall tell.
