Optimizing your computer!
Posted by Jared Borne | 06 Nov 2009

With todays computers, speed is everything. Daily browsing, software testing, and everyday use can eventually slow your computer! In this article, I will show you how to keep your computer clean and fast.

First, I would beg you to ditch Norton, McAfee, or any of those resource hogs that some refer to "antivirus clients". Microsoft has released a new antivirus and anti-spyware client FREE to all people with genuine copies of Windows XP, Vista, and 7. After testing, I am loving what Microsoft put out for its simple, yet effective operation. Not only will it help protect your computer, it appears to be very streamlined and lightweight.

After 350,000,000 downloads, most would agree Piriform's CCleaner is one of the top disk cleaning utilities on the internet. CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! :) I would also like to mention the great built-in Add/Remove Programs utility as well as the System Restore removal utility.

*** You can help Piriform out by installing the Yahoo toolbar, but I would suggest unchecking the box during installation.

Last but not least, my suggestion for defragging your computer would be CCleaners sister program, Defraggler. Use Defraggler to defrag your entire hard drive, or individual files - unique in the industry. This compact and portable Windows application supports NTFS and FAT32 file systems. Not only is it fast, but it is also very lightweight. Defragging keeps your files neat so your computer does not need to search as much to find the data on your harddrive(s).
